Pre-Op Oral Surgery Instructions In Dallas/Ft. Worth TX
Getting You Ready for Surgery
Are you worried you might forget some of the details you need to follow in the days leading up to your appointment? If so, we’re here to ease your mind by providing easy-to-follow pre-operative instructions. At any point during your review, you are welcome to call our team with any questions.
Before Surgery
You are always welcome to call Dr. Williams at (972) 743-6561 or email him at scott@kswdds.com if you have any questions or concerns.
Before your surgery, Dr. Williams will review your medical history. If it is complex, a consultation with your physician may be required. Otherwise, make sure you know the details of your current medications, including the names and dosages, when you talk to Dr. Williams.
If the patient is a minor (under the age of 18), a legal guardian must be present to fill out the “Medical History Update Form” and sign the “Disclosure and Consent Form.”
If you smoke, avoid tobacco usage for at least one week leading up to your procedure. You will also need to hold off for at least one week after surgery.
Surgery with IV Sedation
You must have an adult (over the age of 18) accompany you to and from your appointment. They will need to drive you home and remain with you to ensure your safety after your procedure.
It is recommended that you do not eat or drink anything for at least 6 hours before your appointment. This includes water. This will reduce your risk of nausea.
Do not stop taking routine medications unless you are instructed by your dentist. Only use a minimal amount of water when swallowing.
If IV sedation is administered, make sure to wear loose-fitting clothing around the neck and arms.
After your procedure is complete, you must not operate a vehicle or engage in physical activity for at least 24 hours.
If you have questions about IV sedation and general anesthesia (sleep sedation), contact Dr. Williams at (972) 743-6561 before the day of your appointment.
